Understanding Docominimums

by Wymetto Barnard

There are lots of docominiums in South Carolina. The meaning of a docominium is an apartment in the water for your yacht. As with most vacation houses, 80 percent to 90 percent of their price can be sponsored, and the interest is mostly tax-refundable if they're bought through a home-equity loan or if the personal floating craft and slip together qualify as a home.

Bohicket is a good spot to look and has reserved sixty boat slips for long- and short term rentals, short lived charter boats, boaters and tour boats. With a water depth around 18 feet at low tide, Bohicket Marina and Yacht Club can comfortably accommodate yachts up to 200 feet long.

Conveniences for renters and those that purchase wet slips include a new floating dock system and 30, 50 and 100-amp electric service. Bohicket also offers lots of the same advantages as any resort community. The pier is kitted out with freshwater showers, a laundromat, access to free wireless Web, shopping, ship rentals, charter cruises and a salon and day spa. Whether for a day or a complete season, boaters will feel secure at Bohicket Marina.

Bohicket Yacht Club was organised in July 2004 to market safe sailing and cruising and fun parties for its fellow members. The Society features a personal dining room and bar, is recognized by the US Yacht Club Organisation and collaborates with other yachting clubs round the country.

The area's seafood experiences are the front-runner among fishermen and pleasure boaters alike, who get a appreciation of the area's local spirit at the Privateer, Fischer's Sports Boozer, Bistro at Bohicket, Rosebank Cafe and Cyber Creek Ice Cream Cafe.

Those looking to enjoy the water can take a sunset cruise aboard the Island Breeze, hire one of the new 19-foot Sea Pros with a global positioning system or charter a ship and captain for inshore and offshore fishing. Regularly scheduled cruises depart from Bohicket Marina and cruise past the significant Andell Plantation house, Jenkins Point Plantation and the commercial fishing docks at Cherry Point. As guests cruise further downstream, they are going to see the shrimp boat fleet at East Coast Seafood, which includes a few of the boats that played roles in the film "Forest Gump."

The area wildlife is fantastic. Dolphins play alongside while guests experience the historic hamlet of Rockville, a maze of uplands, wetlands, sandbars, streams and brooks stretched over 550 square miles.

Some docominiums in Charleston real estate offer kayak rentals, a favorite among families looking for a fun day of exploration along the area's creeks, rivers and beaches, proceeding at their own speed and bothering to see dolphins and bald eagles, catch flavorsome blue crabs, hook an inshore game fish or gather shells on the barrier islands. All rental boats are outfitted with safety kit, GPS units and two-way radios. Boaters are also given a total alignment and charts pointing out local highlights and secret fishing spots.
