If you have been out in the market looking for a home, do not relax yet simply by finding a house that fits the one you have been looking for. Getting your dream house does not necessarily mean that you have found your dream home. Before buying, you must undertake home inspection to ensure that everything is set and to avoid incurring extra expenses later. If you are using a real estate agent to get the home, they will do this for you. However, if you are doing the search yourself, you will need to carryout the check up. This article addresses what you should have in your inspection checklist.

First, you have to consider the foundation of the house. Carefully check the roof, floor and walls to ensure that the whole structure does not have dents and cracks. Be sure to also have a keen check of the basement to iron out any chances of it having structural problems. If you are negligent on this aspect, you will be risking using a lot of money after purchasing it as it will cost you much money in the long run.

During the check up, ensure that the interior of the house is free from any damages. This includes checking the functioning of all the openings in the house. All windows and doors should be in good working condition and easy to close and open. Moreover, the locks in all areas of the residence should be functional. Most people take these problems lightly but they end up being very costly in the long run.

The next point on the checklist should be plumbing. This is one of the most common problems that inspectors find in many homes. This entails checking for all the exposed pipes and the any water leaks. Water leaks are most common at connection points such as where they connect to machines like the washing machine. Check that all the taps in the house and compounds are free from leakages.

You should check the quality of the pipe used as some are of relatively low quality. This will be more applicable to buyers of constructions that were made around 1978-1995. Most pipes that were used in this period were made of polybutylene since it was cheaper. These pipes are gray in color and have a plastic look. As a buyer, you should be wary of this pipe type since they easily fail and deteriorate, and will force you to replace them with time.

The next point to include in the checklist is electricity. Make sure that all the electrical applications are in good working order. Check the wiring, outlets and switches for any faults. Your check should be thorough to avoid accidents that could result from faulty electrical appliances.

Last but still important is the residence's drainage. The area grading should be appropriate and able to carry away excess water during the rainy season. To be sure, you could check for any water marks on the interior walls of the basement.

Finally, you should not down play the important service that you will receive from professionals during home inspection. Be sure that there will come a time where their intervention will be come in handy. These professional will clear the air on issues that might seem vague for you.
